Going the Extra Mile

When I chose this theme for the club year, I had no idea just how many extra miles this dynamic group of women would go!  It has been an amazingly productive year so far!

The Women’s Opportunity Award applicants have been judged and we have chosen a very deserving recipient, as well as a runner up.   The Violet Richardson Award applications have been judged and a candidate has been chosen.  Information about these awards can be found on this website. The application process will begin again in September, 2013.  Applications will be available on our website and at locations throughout the community.  Check back later this year for details.  Currently, we are accepting nominations for the Soroptimist Ruby Award which gives recognition to a woman who is going beyond her duty to use her time and talents to help improve the lives of women and/or girls in our community. 

 We are shining the light on Soroptimist and increasing our collective impact by initiating a new identifying project that we titled STEPS- Soroptimist Teaching and Empowering for Personal Success.  The program targets teenaged girls at our local continuing high school and offers classroom workshops to help improve the life skills of these young women.  There is more information about STEPS on the website.

It’s all coming together- and rather quickly, I might add!  This is what we do year after year and we do so well that we hardly notice it’s done!
