Soroptimist International of Vacaville was honored to present – via a virtual Zoom meeting – a total of $12,000 in scholarships to four outstanding college students and two high school students. Sadie Cunning, a Will C. Wood graduate currently attending Point Loma Nazarene University, received a $3,000 scholarship. She is majoring in nursing with a minor in pre-therapeutic psychology. She received $1,000 from Soroptimist International of Vacaville in 2019 and $2,000 in 2018, bringing the total support for her education to $6,000. As the COVID-19 crisis developed into a global pandemic, Sadie signed up to volunteer for the California Health Corps. Sadie has a long list of achievements, including being on the Academic Dean’s List her entire college career, president of Link Crew Leadership and was involved in Key Club. She also works with Special Olympics and is a microbiology tutor. Julia Walton, a 2019 Vacaville High School graduate, was awarded $2,000. She is currently attending San Diego State University with a major in speech language and hearing sciences. Julia served on her high school’s student council and was captain of the volleyball team. Her life-long desire has been to work with children with communication disorders. Caitlyn Neitz, a 2017 Vacaville High School graduate, received $2,000. She is also a previous scholarship awardee, earning $3,000 in 2018, bringing total support for her education to $5,000. Caitlyn is seeking a degree in communication science and disorders from California State University, Fullerton. Caitlyn wishes to return to Vacaville after finishing her education to work with students in overcoming communication barriers. Allison “Lei” Kenui, a 2019 Will C. Wood graduate, earned a $1,000 scholarship. She is currently majoring in nursing at Montana State University. She was a member of her high school’s Link Crew Leadership and a community volunteer for environmental causes.
